Being a Virginia Master Naturalist provides many opportunities to get involved with your
community and our local State Parks are happy to be part of that community!
Those who are interested in volunteering at Pocahontas State Park or any Virginia State Park more than one time, need to register with Virginia State Parks. The process is easy and there are perks to entering this program!
To Begin: Apply to Virginia State Parks by going to: Volunteer opportunities: (https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/volunteers)
When you apply, it will ask you which park would you be interested in volunteering, you will select Pocahontas State Park. This will make sure it gets routed correctly.
It will then ask if you are a VMN. Say yes, and specify Pocahontas as the chapter.
You will receive an email from the Volunteer Coordinator for Pocahontas State Park. This will contain important information about completing the background check. You must do the state background check in order to participate in the park volunteer opportunities.
After the background check has been completed, the Volunteer Coordinator will send another email with information about the next mandatory orientation and links to volunteer opportunities.
From there, sign up for activities through opportunities shared via VMN, emails sent from Rangers, or you may also join the Friends of Pocahontas State Park Meet Up app to see more opportunities offered in the park.
When you log hours, you will be doing this in 2 places. First, as a VMN, you will log your hours in Better Impact under the Pocahontas State Park heading. Second, you will log your hours in the State Parks system, YODA so that the park has a record of hours volunteered as well as a record toward benefits you earn through your hours that can be used at any Virginia State Park. All of those details will be explained in the orientation.
We look forward to seeing you at a Pocahontas State Park Volunteering Opportunity soon!
